LET THE LITTLE GIRL DANCE

I love my job....I am thankful for my job....But you know what I miss?  Yep...Those that know me know exactly what I miss!  Fas' Dancin'.  For 50 years my #1 stress reliever has been to find me some folks and some music and dance til' the music stops.  Right now there's no time to dance.  I think I'm becoming a tad bit crotchety.  I think I need to dance!  Dancing keeps me from biting folks.  Now, you know I don't mean REALLY biting folks...but losing my patience...and that's not me.

Looks like I'm gonna have to find the energy to hit the streets of OD.  Mid-Winter (a "shag" thing for those of you that don't know what Mid-Winter is) comes to OD this weekend.  This old lady has gotten herself in a rut and has been coming home and hittin' the hay around 8:00 every night.  On my days off I've been catching up on all the personal things I haven't had time for lately and STILL hit the hay early.  Methinks this weekend I'll seek out some Geritol and take my dance card downtown.  I'll let you know how it works out!

Gonna put my dancin' shoes on and head right out....Gonna find me some of those old men that still like to cut a rug to some good ol' rhythm and blues.  I'm gonna 1and2, 3and4, 5-6 from one end of OD to the other.  Heck, I might even get Mr. Pug to get in the sand and dance for all of ya' on the OD Pavilion webcam.  You might want to check it out over the weekend...You never know.

Mid-Winter SOS used to be about folks coming together for the love of the dance and music without the crowds of regular SOS.  You had to be a bonafide member of a shag club...a kind of thank you for your patronage during the Fall and Spring SOS events.  The "big gun" dancers would always show up and there'd be some mighty fine dancin'!  Now it's just another BIG party, with lots of folks that have no idea what it's really all about.  Don't get me wrong...I am thankful for the revenue Mid-Winter brings to our clubs, restaurants and the City of NMB.  But as we have gotten older, the crowds are not as appealing and there's no room to dance the way we like to dance.  There's no respect on the dance floor.  Folks are standing on the dance floor sippin' their drinks...talking and having a good time...taking up the room for the serious dancers.

In the old days there was R E S P E C T on the dance floors of OD.  Three or four couples would hit the floor and everybody would watch.....Next song three or four different couples would hit the floor. ....We enjoyed watching as much as we did dancing....Knowing that eventually it would be OUR turn!  During the big events now it's more about the drinking and partying than the dancing.  Can you tell I have strong opinion of this?  I know, I know....we can't go back in time...But I sure do wish folks would remember this is a dance event...A "fas' dancin'" event...and show some respect.  How are you gonna see some of the greats do steps you've never seen before, to return home and practice what you've seen in the hopes of struttin' YOUR stuff the next big weekend?

Yessiree Bob...I think I'm gonna de-stress a little this weekend.  I'm fillin' that little dance card now.  Just holler and I'll put you on it!  We're gonna have a good ol' time!  And I'm gonna go back to work on Monday with a smile on my face and feelin' a little lighter on my feet.  Come on guys...Kristyemac is ready for ya!

And paleeeeeeeeze.....Save the last dance for me!

See ya' next week....and remember...if all else fails...JUST DANCE!
